In alignment with our commitment to staff and student health and well-being, Government Dental College and Hospital, Jamnagar, organized a Thalassemia Screening Camp on 17-12-24. The event aimed to create awareness and screen students for thalassemia, a genetic blood disorder prevalent in India, with an emphasis on early detection and prevention.
Event Highlights:
1. Camp Overview:
The camp was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Nayana Patel, Dean of GDCH, Jamnagar, and Indian Red Cross Society, Jamnagar District branch. A team of expert healthcare professionals and lab technicians facilitated the screening process.
2. Participation:
More than 110 students participated in the camp, showcasing enthusiasm and awareness about the importance of screening for genetic disorders. Faculty members and administrative staff also extended their support to ensure smooth coordination.
3. Screening Process:
Participants underwent a proper screening process and further diagnostic tests for suspected cases.Information pamphlets and counselling were provided to educate students about thalassemia, its impact, and preventive measures. The camp emphasized the importance of premarital testing and genetic counselling to prevent the birth of children with Thalassemia Major. This camp was also conducted as a part of Saurashtra University guidelines on compulsory screening for Thalassemia amongst its students.
