This yearly celebration informs the public on the dangers of using tobacco, the business practices of tobacco companies, what WHO is doing to fight the tobacco epidemic, and what people around the world can do to claim their right to health and healthy living and to protect future generations. In 1988, Resolution WHA42.19 was passed, calling for the celebration of World No Tobacco Day, every year on 31 May.
The theme for this year’s WNTD underscores the imperative to shield children from tobacco industry interference.
*Theme and Objective:* This year’s theme centers on halting the tobacco industry’s targeting of youth with harmful products. It aims to raise awareness and prompt policymakers to enact measures safeguarding young people from the tobacco industry’s manipulative tactics.

*Emerging Trends:* Electronic cigarettes and nicotine pouches are increasingly popular among youth. In some countries, rates of e-cigarette use among adolescents surpass traditional cigarette smoking rates.
